Laptop Computer mend - Clean Computer Fan

All laptop computer repairs are not created equal. The same computer fix can vary greatly from model to model.

This narrative will take you straight through the steps of how to fix a computer in order to keep it running cool. On some laptop models, it is very easy to take off and clean the Cpu fan, but on others you will need a skilled technician to do the job. Cleaning the computer fan, for example of an Acer Extensa, is very easy. To begin, you will need the following equipment:

Cpu Fan

1. Small screw driver
2. Can of compressed air
3. Tube of thermal paste

First, start by removing the five screws at the bottom of the laptop. Gradually pry up the cover. You might hear a exiguous popping noise during extraction but do not worry it should come out with no problem. Next you need to take off the five screws keeping down the heat sink and then the two screws that hold down the Cpu fan. Beware, there is a connector attached to the fan, you need to make sure you pull on the plastic connector to take off it, do not pull on the cable.

Second take off the heat sink from the computer and spray it with the compressed air to blow off any dust and dirt that has accumulated. Then take off the fan and do the same thing but make sure you hold the fan wheel in place when you blow it with the air. You do not want the fan to spin because the blades are delicate and they could get damaged.

Finally, the last step of this computer fix is to examine the heat sink to see if the thermal paste, which will be sitting on a small copper plate, has hardened and cracked. If the paste is still the consistency of toothpaste, it does not need to be replaced. If however it has hardened, take a credit card or some other thin plastic piece you can use to Gradually scrape off the hard material on both the heat sink you removed and the plate inside the computer. Do not use a knife or any other metal object to insure you do not scratch the copper surface. When you are ready to apply new paste, first wipe off the surfaces with a paper towel and then blow them off again with the compressed air. Put a exiguous dab of paste on the heat sink and spread it evenly and place the part back into the computer.

You are now ready to put the fan back with the two screws and do not forget to reattach the connector. Do not torque down on the screws, you do not want to warp the motherboard underneath by production the screws too tight. Also when you replace the back cover, work your way colse to in a star pattern while tightening the five screws, this will help to get an even fit all the way colse to the cover.

First Computer Build! Lets get straight down to the point. Most people know that I have been planning and creating a computer for about two or so months. I ordered July 15th and after issues with UPS (supposed to be free next day delivery turned into freak 10 day wait), I received the parts July 25th. On July 26th, after building it and coming EVER SO close, the motherboard turned out to be dead because of CMOS issues. We (as in B-Dawg and I) attempted to go to Radioshack to get a new CMOS battery but that battery didnt do anything to prevent the CMOS error. After RMAing (sending the package back to Newegg), my dad told me the battery was dead meaning the motherboard could have been alive. Again, there literally is no good of the two, but Socket is becoming more common, and is commonly easier to keep cool, which is a Big factor in Cpu's at higher speeds.

Cpu speeds are rated in Megahertz (Mhz), up to 1000, then they are referred to as Gigahertz (Ghz). One major misconception regarding Cpu's is that the bigger the amount (the megahertz/gigahertz), the faster the Cpu. While this is commonly true, there are several other factors that follow the wide speed of the Cpu.

So the next time you're shopping for Cpu's, remember to not only look at the Cpu speed, but check out the other factors most people don't commonly notice.
When buying a Cpu, it's very important to know what you need it for. Most basic users only need internet and some word processing and basic picture editing. Using Windows Xp (since it's the most tasteless home Operating law right now) 2.0 Ghz should be your minimum. This speed is just right for these basic functions, and should be fast sufficient to last a while, and most of all, it is very cheap.

One thing to note here is that the price difference in the middle of the 2.0 Ghz and the upper 2.x Ghz Cpu's (like 2.6 or 2.9) is so diminutive that you might be good off to get the one slightly higher to last longer over time.

I do Not recommend buying the fastest cpu on the market, ever.. Simply because what you pay six hundred dollars or more for now, will be only a few hundred dollars in a couple of months, and this will always be true as long as cpu speeds keep increasing.

Computer Keeps Rebooting Itself

If your computer is rebooting on its own, here are some reasons which may be causing the problem.

Check all the hardware. The speculate sometimes, can be loose connections or faulty hardware. If it is the question with the Ram stick, fit it properly so that it will not reboot itself.

Click on the Hardware tab and then device Manager. You can see icons of all categories and if you consideration any icons with red or yellow signals used for warning, updating of that driver can solve your problem.
